Michael MacLean is an interdisciplinary designer and artist recently settled in Halifax, where he completed his Masters of Environmental Design Studies (Design-Build). Before Halifax, he split his time between Montreal and the Yukon. The time he spent in the north of Canada pushed him to work more closely with communities in both his art and design practice. Living in a small northern town planted a curiosity in narratives of the rural, isolated and how they compare to the urban context. You quickly begin to see the possibilities of more participatory approaches. Through his art, thesis work and design interests, he is striving to find new ways of bringing communities into the process and create better outcomes.
